The Power of Storytelling

Dec 15, 2017 11:46:57 AM / by Rick Leonard

Stories are authentic human experiences. Stories leap frog the technology and bring us to the core of experience, as any good storyteller (transmedia or otherwise) knows. ... Stories are about collaboration and connection. They transcend generations, they engage us through emotions, and they connect us to others.Jan 17, 2011

This quote from Psychology Today is pertinent to this month's contest on signing people up for LTCRplus using an AGB code. Many LTCR Advisors are crafting emails and starting to reach out to promote our new program.   This great benefit is a new tool that has huge potential.  But the story has to be told correctly and connect with people for it to be effective.

An analogy I made with Greg Rogovin in a recent email exchange was you can send someone a coupon for a free coffee or you can sit down and buy them a cup of coffee.  We of course want the latter.

When I tell people about LTCRplus, I don't start by explaining the 4 benefits.  I tell people that my partner and I have been in the LTC insurance industry for 20 years.  We have had lots of sucess.  But we realized that we would not know who to call if one of us or a family member needed care tomorrow.  Sure we could call the carrier to start the claims process but there is so much more.  We felt like cobblers with no shoes.  LTCRplus was developed becasue we wanted to solve that problem.

When you reach out to the contacts you have selected to offer them LTCRplus, find a story that will relate to them.

One potential angle for promoting LTCRplus is the ability for it to help with the "sandwhich generation."   Most people are very willing to admit their parents may need help as they age.  As they look at using this tool for their parents, many will start to take a look at their own situation. LTCRplus is a great way to have a continual conversation on long-term health care.  Plus if their parents need help, this will help them.

For example:

"If you are like me  (Prospect name), you may have kids and older parents . . .We are often referred to as the "sandwhich generation"   This can cause quite a burden  . . . Fortuantely my company has developed a tool to help people like us.  LTCR has leveraged the buying power of over 600 groups who we work with to create a new program called LTCRplus.  We are able to give this as a complimentary benefit to select individuals outside of our groups.  If you think this could help you and your family, visit www.ltcrplus.com.  Just enter your email and my code . . . . if you have have questions, etc.. ."

The more we make our offers personal the better engagement we will have, the more people will liseten to the issues surround long-term health care and ultimatley the more insurance people will buy from us.
